Hello and welcome to
Hong Kong Property blog

This newsletter is published in association with 852realestate.com
If you are reading this i guess you must have some interest
in Hong Kong Property.
I hope to give my readers a general overview of living in
hong kong and my personal view of the Hong Kong property market.
We will also bring you selected properties form our
sister site 852realestate.com the premier Hong Kong Property site
I have been living here for 20 years and have bought and
sold several properties and lived in many different areas of
Hong Kong. That said I don’t claim to be an expert and all
opinions are my own if you take action based on what you
read here then beware. In fact buyer beware should be
emblazoned …..on all papers relating to Hong Kong property
transactions. For example all property bought here is leasehold,
yes that’s right coz when it reverted to chinese rule in 1997
all land is leased until 2047 what happens after that is up to the mainland.

So what are your options? Lease or buy?

If you are here on a contract for a min um time period then leasing is probably
your best bet. Firstly your company probably pays for you to be here so your only
headache is where do you live.
If you are going to be here for a while and your company pays you an allowance
you would be mad not to buy. Lets look at leasing first of all

So where to start…..

Step 1: How to find Hong Kong Property.

First Change your mind set living in Honkers is a bit of a challenge its all
about compromise you will not find everything right about any place to live.
You already have a budget, probably set by your company, so start out by l
ooking at some estate agents web sites to get an idea of what’s available
for your budget, forgive the blatant plug but our Hong Kong Property site
features over 300 properties form estate agents all over Hong Kong and
private adverts so its a good place to start . Also look in the
South China Morning Post property section on wednesdays and sundays.

Step2: Decide on an area to live…

If you are a single young professional ’syp’ then its a no brainer MIDLEVELS.
Why because this area offers you these advantages.

  • a: Its a short distance to work!
  • b: There are tons of bars and restaurants within walking distance
  • c:There is plenty of choice

If your married with a family then its a different matter.
    No 1 Priority SCHOOLING
There is a chronic shortage of good schools in Hong kong and there
    are limited places.
Popular choices German swiss, french international, island school,
west island school all offering english curriculum. you need to be
within commuting distance to these schools.
Popular areas to live: Hong Kong Island Pokfulam, Stanley, Tai Tam
On Kowloon side you have KG 5 ,shatin college and the Australian international
